A biophysical neural accumulator model of decision making in an antisaccade task
نویسندگان
چکیده
A biophysical cortico-colicular model of saccade initiation based on competitive integration of planned and reactive cortical saccade decision signals in the intermediate layer of the superior colliculus is introduced. The variable slopes of the climbing activities of the input cortical decision signals are produced from variability in the ionic and synaptic conductances of cortical neurons. The model reproduces the unimodal distributions of saccade reaction times for correct antisaccades and erroneous prosaccades as well as the variability of saccade reaction times and the overall error probabilities in a large sample of 2006 young men performing an antisaccade task. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Humans and animals are constantly facing the problem of having to 4 choose from a variety of possible actions as they interact with the environment. 5 Both external and internal cues have to be used to guide their selection of a single 6 action from many possible alternatives. Which action to choose in a given context 7 may have important biological consequences to their survival. Decision maki...
متن کاملAntisaccade performance in schizophrenia: a neural model of decision making in the superior colliculus
Antisaccade performance deficits in schizophrenia are generally interpreted as an impaired top-down inhibitory signal failing to suppress the erroneous response. We recorded the antisaccade performance (error rates and latencies) of healthy and schizophrenia subjects performing the mirror antisaccade task. A neural rise-to-threshold model of antisaccade performance was developed to uncover the ...
متن کاملNeural competition via lateral inhibition between decision processes and not a STOP signal accounts for the antisaccade performance in healthy and schizophrenia subjects
Decision making is the process of accumulating evidence about the world and the utility of possible outcomes (Cutsuridis, 2010). A paradigm often used by behavioral neuroscientists to investigate decision processes is the antisaccade paradigm (see Figure 1A; Hallett, 1978). In the antisaccade paradigm subjects are required to suppress an erroneous saccade (error prosaccade) toward a peripheral ...
متن کاملA DSS-Based Dynamic Programming for Finding Optimal Markets Using Neural Networks and Pricing
One of the substantial challenges in marketing efforts is determining optimal markets, specifically in market segmentation. The problem is more controversial in electronic commerce and electronic marketing. Consumer behaviour is influenced by different factors and thus varies in different time periods. These dynamic impacts lead to the uncertain behaviour of consumers and therefore harden the t...
متن کاملConflict Resolution as Near-Threshold Decision-Making: A Spiking Neural Circuit Model with Two-Stage Competition for Antisaccadic Task
Automatic responses enable us to react quickly and effortlessly, but they often need to be inhibited so that an alternative, voluntary action can take place. To investigate the brain mechanism of controlled behavior, we investigated a biologically-based network model of spiking neurons for inhibitory control. In contrast to a simple race between pro- versus anti-response, our model incorporates...
